Sometime's it takes a friend from out of town to remind you what a great city this is. Last night, after a rip-roaring thunderstorm, I headed uptown to Times Square to see Next To Normal, a Tony and Pulitzer prize-winning musical running on Broadway about a schizophrenic, bi-polar mother and her family. It was an intense two-hour performance, and Marin Mazzie, the lead actress, took us on an emotional journey. As they say, she "went there." Beyond amazing.

I got sad news from home last night. Mama Joe, my babysitter, passed away. I've been asked to write something to be read at her funeral tomorrow. I've got her on my mind, and I'm thinking about just the right thing to say.
