It's Monday morning. The camp is quiet. Our weekend campers were picked up last night. Now what?
Here's what you might have seen or heard if you had been at Camp Lucy this weekend:
'Weatin in the dark: The temperature has consistently been hovering around 102 during the day and the high 80s at night. At the youth rodeo on Saturday night, Leddy said to me "We're 'weatin in the dark." Translation: We're sweating in the dark. She was right. We were.
Mean: On separate occasions, both girls said "Josh, you're mean." I'm glad they have short term memory loss because they would say that and then very quickly crawl up in my lap and say "I'm glad you're here. I love you."
Little things: It takes a lot of little things to get through a big long day at Camp Lucy. You have to feed the horses. Then you need to take a ride in the Barbie Jeep. Story time pops up. (By the way, Black Beauty is a good put-yourself-to-sleep story. Madison, I'm sorry I got so sleepy.) Searching for a frog in the flower bed takes a while and adds a bit of excitement to the day. And so does dancing to Lady Gaga or Kylie. They love the dancing. And Leddy loves to flip through the songs on my ipod. She likes a "crazy song." She always stopped on the images of Dolly Parton and Lady Gaga.
Screaming: Little girls scream. About everything.
Swimming: This was the camp highlight. I taught Madison to dive off the side and then off the board. And she loves a dolphin ride on my back. And Leddy, the littlest fish, may in fact be a fish. She's discovered that she can go under water and open her eyes, waive at people, make sounds, and blow bubbles. Once I convinced her to kick her feet and go under she swam. Like a fish.
Jake, where are you?
