By all accounts, it was a full day. 18 solid hours.
My morning was pretty routine. Gym. Meetings. Lunch.
Just before 2 o'clock things got interesting.
First, I thought I had a bad case of vertigo. Then, I thought the guys on the scaffolding outside my window were playing grab ass. And as I stood up to look out the window to see what was going on, I realized the floor was shaking.
Uh oh.
Some colleagues and I evacuated not knowing what was happening. Some stayed behind. I'm always surprised how long it takes to get down 12 floors.
We exited the building and crossed the street. Soon, we figured out it was an earthquake, and then I realized being outside was not the best idea, and crossing the street wasn't really going to help. We went back to work, and eventually we all confessed that we felt a little nauseated. A native Californian said that's normal when the Earth shakes.
I don't know. No time to worry about that - it was time to focus on dinner.
My friends Yanci and Chris, their boys, her mother Suzy and friend Paolo are in town. Not knowing what the group wanted, I made three reservations, wrapped up my work, discussed pros/cons and directions for dinner, and headed downtown to Soul Cycle. An hour later, I was in a cab headed for dinner.
We landed at The Standard Grill, and three hours later, we walked out feeling the love of friendships and great big laughs.
