Remember what your parents taught you about looking left then right before crossing the street? Last night when I left a birthday party in Brooklyn, I looked to my left. I'm glad I did. There was that view. The one you don't see when you live right in the middle of it all.

Manhattan. The Big Apple. New York City. The Brooklyn Bridge. The Manhattan Bridge. All of it.

One of my favorite books is E.B. White's Here is New York, and although I read it a few years ago, I remembered my favorite line like it was yesterday. 

I've been lucky.
