I just wrapped up a lecture to 40 freshmen. Actually, it wasn't much of a lecture. It was more of a discussion on the book Krik! Krak!, which is a depressing book about the plight of Haitian refugees. It was so depressing that I didn't finish it, and that's why it was merely a discussion.
Here's what I know: these kids are super smart. Smarter than me. And I also know that they were born the year I graduated high school, and that's freaking me out just a little. Really.

P.S. It's been about 45 minutes since I posted, and I'm near nuts due to the constant jack hammering outside my window. They are cutting up the sidewalk 12 stories below. What could have possibly been wrong with that sidewalk? And what are they going to replace it with? More concrete. The same concrete. Geez. Really, it's too much.
