"You is kind. You is smart. You is important."
I loved that line in the book, and I felt the same about it in the movie. Yesterday, I saw The Help. I was not disappointed. I loved it.
Sure, this story is about race. The fact that white people ever have, or still do, treat people of color that way is horrible. Actually, the whole notion that one group of people can feel and act and live and set laws feeling superior to the other disgusts me.
I felt the same as I did when I finished the book -- I wasn't quite ready for it to end. I had those ladies on my mind. And I thought about the ladies and gentlemen who were, and still are, close to my family: Maurice, or Mama Joe as I called her, Emma, Toby, and Jack.
Let's get one thing straight: it was not like The Help. AT ALL. Period. The end.
They were kind. They were smart. They were important.
