Yesterday, I think I made some people happy. I know I made one colleague cry. I only said what needed to be said. It was the truth, and no one else would say it. So, I did.
I also sat in a meeting with a consultant who explained that he could solve all of my marketing challenges through a complex math problem. Normally, I would run away, but I rallied to concentrate. It was hard.
My first thought was of Mrs. Hohenberger, the Algebra teacher at good ole Cooper High. That lady did math problems all day long, and had ink from the overhead projector from her hand to her elbow by the end of the day.
Then, the consultant explained that the math involved really is a geometry problem. That reminded me of Mrs. McKamy, the geometry teacher. Mrs. McKamy spent hours explaining those theories, but she had a bad habit of wearing one navy shoe and one black shoe. I quietly pointed it out to her one day. She was mortified.
Again, I only said what needed to be said.
I also think it was at that point that Mrs. McKamy realized I knew my basic shapes and it was best to just pass me in the class.
There was a brief moment yesterday when I wished I understood math better. Don't worry, it passed quickly. I am quite good at signing on the dotted line, and I hope we get to work with this guy. If he solves all of my problems, then I will know there's actually something behind all of that math. Until then, I'm not sure.
I like 2011. Life is going along as it should.
