I was surprised when my mom called me last night. I had just talked to her.
"I need help with my Christmas shopping," she said. "I couldn't talk earlier."
Lou Ann had been to Dallas on Thursday. The American Girl store was out of what Madison and Leddy want. She explained that the lady in the Dallas store said the company is sold out and people are selling these items on eBay for $400.
"Do you know you can't call and speak to someone in a specific store?" Lou Ann asked.
My reply?
"Would you want to talk to crazy grandmothers?"
She pushed on.
"So I was wondering how hard it would be for you to run uptown and check the New York store?
Pause.
Silence.
"Leddy never asks for anything," she said.
True.
Of course I'll go.
For two reasons: one, Lou Ann said "uptown." She knows where I am, and where I need to go.
Then, there's Leddy.
As soon as my 10 a.m. meeting ends, I'm out the door and headed uptown.
Update to follow.
10:45 a.m. As soon as I found a sales rep at American Girl, I said "I'm an uncle on a mission. I need one "stable" and "Kinani's Shaved Ice Stand." She held the stable on the first floor and sent me upstairs to Kinani's section.
No go on the shaved ice stand. Leddy's going to be one sad little girl. :-( It's sold out online and in the stores. Now let's see if Lucy caves and goes to eBay to buy!!
And please don't tell me there's a recession. The store was packed! And do kids not go to school anymore? It was wild, wild, wild.
