I might have told this story before. It's one of my favorites. Here it is again.
I was probably 12 or 13. It was summer. My brothers and I piled into the station wagon, and Lou Ann drove us to the country club. On the way, we saw another kid working outside in that infamous Texas heat.
Lou Ann said, "Look at (name not important). He's working, and we're going to have fun this afternoon. If the three of you grow up to be sorry, I will kick your ass."
Now that may sound harsh in print. It wasn't. At all. Don't get me wrong -- she meant it. But as far as I'm concerned, it was perfect.
I grew up getting to play...
...with the full knowledge that if I turned out to be sorry, there would be consequences.
Wouldn't you agree that's pretty good life advice?
Happy Mother's Day. Thanks for all of the love then and now.
