For the first time all week, we set an alarm for 7 a.m. Simon jumped up and was ready for his breakfast. He took charge of waking Madison with a few kisses and promptly buried himself in the covers while the rest of us got ready.
We dropped him off at daycare and made our way to the Today show concert with Kenny Chesney. Madison climbed on my shoulders and managed to see a little from a block away. She asked me why I didn't "make a reservation" for better seats. I think she learned something this week ;-) We love a reservation.
We stopped into St. Patrick's Cathedral and window-shopped our way up Fifth Ave. She asked to go to Central Park one last time, and we obliged. We took our second pedi-cab ride to Bethesda Fountain before heading home to pack their bags.
My favorite parts of the week?
- Shopping with her at Bloomingdale's. She knew what wanted, asked the sales associate for help, and found her way to the fitting room with a HUGE smile on her face.
- Watching her get ready for tea at The Plaza. She wanted to look perfect and she took her time. We had to rush her at the end, and she was a little lady the whole day.
- Seeing her leave my building in her new "long dress" with her suitcase and bag. She was in the lead. She knew what to do. I was happy.
It was a great week. She taught me how to be a better uncle. And I know she learned at least two things: how to hail a taxi and the importance of reservations. Both will serve her well.
P.S. A huge thunderstorm came through as Lucy and Madison were about to depart. They sat on the tarmac for three hours and finally got to Cooper at 1:30 a.m.
