In just a few hours, I'll be back on the plane headed to New York. The last seven days have been so much fun - here's a look at the week in review.
Sunday - My brothers, their wives, and I joined the church the family has been attending for years. We're a little slow, but it felt good to join under Pastor Gary Regan's leadership. He's been with our family during the happiest and saddest times.
And then there was the surprise party for my mom. Seeing about 50 of her friends, our friends, and family was great. It's hard to know who had the best time - my mom or the guests. Everyone was so happy to be invited. It's proof that we need more parties in life.
Monday & Tuesday - just fun days.
Wednesday - I ate lunch with Judd & Jason at the newest restaurant in town - Beans & Burgers. Delicious. And if this place was in New York, you wouldn't be able to get a table for months. It's that good.
On the way home, I stopped to get gas in the truck. My brothers pulled in behind me. I didn't know the young lady across from me, and I didn't realize she was waiting on me. It was taking a long time to fill up, and Jason started harassing me. We exchanged a few words - all in fun. But the lady thought Jason was serious, and she got scared and offered for him to take her spot. Jason started laughing, and said "Ma'am, that's my brother." All three of us laughed. In fact, we're still laughing about this.
Thursday - it was Jake Day. We had fun. We fished. And we played. And he talked. He's 3-1/2, but sometimes he acts like a 70 year old man. And that makes me laugh. He's funny.
About a month ago, a crazed man went into the Wal-Mart in Commerce and opened fire on the shoppers. Luckily, a cop was in store and he apprehended him before anyone was hurt.
But Emma, who was our housekeeper and occasional babysitter, was in there shopping. I called her to see how she was. Emma told me her daughter rushed her to the back of the store with the other shoppers. Emma explained to me that she told those people to "HUSH!", which I've heard more than once. That made me laugh. I told her I was happy that she was safe. But then I called her right back."Emma!" I said.
"What baby?" she replied.
"Did you have that ice pick with you?" I asked.
She laughed. "No baby, I had my knife."
"Emma, did you really tell us that you could carry a gun in your bra?"
"Yes, baby. I sure did."
And I laughed so much.
Friday - Leddy Day! I babysat her today, and it was fun. My mom had picked up some flowers, and Leddy and I decided to plant them. Leddy described in detail where we should plant them. When we got them in the ground, she said, "these are beautiful." We played all day.
So I'll borrow Leddy's word - "beautiful."
That's how I describe this week.
