Thanks to Cathay Pacific Flight 841, I was fast forwarded through Saturday.
I hope yours was a good one.
good day. Any time I can smell cut grass and Hawaiian Tropics sunscreen
first thing on a February morning, whatever else that happens is just extra. This morning, I spent an hour in the gym, about 45 minutes at the breakfast
buffet, and then went out for a walk in the park nearby. Life is good. Let's rewind for a second, and I'll catch you up on the view from seat 64H. *** Flight 841 to Hong Kong was delayed an hour leaving Kennedy due to a medical
emergency. Still not sure what happened, but the crew paged for a doctor on
board before the door was shut. It happened up front, and I was at the back,
so it's all unclear to me. Just before the delay, the lady in 62H pitched a big ole fit. She was one of
the last to board, and she wanted to put her bag in the compartment directly
over her seat. Now this petite Chinese lady had the personality of a giant and the teeth of
a beast. She would not rest until the meek and mild flight attendant moved
everything, and the lady got her backpack directly above her. It was ugly. And she was mean, which made her ugly. Here's when I contemplated getting off the flight. I generally feel like you should sit down and shut up when you're on a
plane. But that's just me. You should also smile and be pleasant. Remember this lady. We're gonna come back to her. And also remember, God
doesn't like ugly. *** I read the latest issue of Vanity Fair, and I was reminded on what a great
magazine that is. I also watched some TV from the in-flight entertainment
system, and then I ate whatever they would put in front of me. I have to say
the frittata for breakfast and the fish for dinner were pretty darn good. *** People ask me all of the time if I sleep on the plane. My answer is always
not really. The truth is I don't like sleeping on the plane. I prefer a nap.
Maybe a couple of 20 minute naps during the 16-hour haul to Hong Kong is all
I want. Really. But this time I slept. And I dreamed, and I don't like it. Here's why: I have crazy dreams on planes. And this time my dream was this:
I was at my aunt and uncle's house in Petersburg TX. And, as I was walking
across their yard, I kept sinking into the dirt. Up to my knees, and I couldn't get out. When I woke up I was leaning up against the poor guy next to me, and I was in a sweat, and my eyes were puffy, and I had a headache. No, I hadn't been drinking. I apologized to the guy, and got up and stood at the back of the plane and
drank a bottle of water. I really wanted to pour part of it on me. *** So at this point in the flight, everyone was asleep. Plane was completely
dark, and the hum of the engines was about all you could hear. I flipped on
the E! Entertainment programs. Over the noise of my headphones, I heard: "Excuse me! Excuse me! Someone!
Help!" I looked over my left shoulder, and there in the floor near the bathroom was
a lady. There were no flight attendants around, and another passenger had discovered
her in the floor. Since I seemed to be the only one that heard the man, I jumped up to help. Remember Mean Lady from 62H? Yep. It was her. She was breathing and alert, but I guess she passed out. Or she just got what was coming to her for being
so mean and nasty. The Cathay crew rushed in, and some other Chinese lady jumped up and started
banging the hell out of Mean Lady's back. I think it was some ancient
Chinese ritual reserved for when you pass out on a plane. I decided my work was done there, and I went back to my seat. *** Once we arrived in Hong Kong, a gate agent escorted five of us that were
connecting to KL. It was great to go through the bowels of the airport and
bypass all of the nonsense. And how my bags made it to KL, I'm not sure, but
the ground crew for Cathay Pacific gets an A+. *** That's enough. It's a beautiful day here. Hope yours is too.
