I come to Singapore so often now, that it felt like almost-home when I arrived from Taipei on Tuesday. At least it is familiar. I've worked hard the past few days. There will be lots of exciting things happening when 2010 kicks off - we'll be hosting a film festival and the school's first fundraiser in late January/early February. More on that soon! The highlight of my work week came on Friday. I taped about 12 interviews with students at Tisch Asia - I've never met a better bunch of students. Never. And I've met a lot over the years. Once, I had to bite my lip to hold back the tears when this one student from Kenya talked passionately about her country and the need to tell stories from her point-of-view. Stay tuned! You gotta see this stuff.Personally it's been even more fun to see all of the friends I've made here - the amazing photographer Scott and his wife Stacey, plus Claudine and Colin and their buddy Simon, and Alvin and Eck Mengh. Great times!I met the devil on Friday. Or at least one of his daughters. There are some rules in this country that I will never begin to understand, and some of them are so ridiculous, that it makes you crazy. Or at least, they make me crazy. I won't bore you with the details, but I've been put on notice that I will be violating "Terms and Condiditons" in February if speeches are given during a performance. For over an hour I tried to negotiate with this Lady Devil and her only response was "this is a violation of the Terms and Conditions." I was professional. I smiled. I listened. I praised her venue. I flirted. I begged. Nothing. Lady Devil never smiled. "Terms and Conditions" is all she would say. And I ended the meeting by saying "Your boss should be proud of you. You're tough." She said, "Good day Mr. Josh."Those speeches are going to be really good - just wait Lady. Off to Kuala Lumpur now...
