Hi.

Welcome to my blog.

This Is Your Captain Speaking

JAKARTA - August 1: Off to Jakarta for an education fair this weekend. The flight from Singapore to Jakarta is just over an hour. A meal had been served and the cabin crew was preparing for arrival. "Ladies and Gentlemen, this is the captain speaking."

This was about 15 minutes before our scheduled arrival. He went on to explain that the "forward rudders" had failed at first...but now they were working again and he would be able to slow the 777 down.

About 5 minutes before we touch down, "Ladies and Gentlmen, this is the captain speaking. It looks like it's going to be harder to slow this plane down than I expected. I'm going to need to use the emergency break to make sure we don't run off the runway. Please prepare for a very abrupt stop."

I thought: "You have got to be kidding me?"

We landed. It was fine. American Airlines must use the emergency break all of the time. It didn't feel any different.

The traffic to the hotel was horrendous. It took almost an hour-and-a-half to arrive at the hotel. Armed security stopped our car as we turned into the hotel. They inspected the trunk, looked inside the car and used mirrors to check underneath the vehicle. All was fine. Checked in. Went to sleep.

Good Morning Jakarta
